Trial journey to school - throughout the region

A change of school, a new school, a new route to school: a challenge for many pupils and their parents. In order to get to know the new way to school by bus and train in peace and quiet before the start of school, the Braunschweig Region Transport Association (VRB) is offering the „School journey on trial“ campaign between 1 June and 12 July 2026. Future pupils in years 1 and 5 can spend a day with their parents or other accompanying adults trying out the new way to school by public transport free of charge. The outward and return journey is free of charge for the child and accompanying adults (max. 2 people). Whether bus, tram or regional train: all public transport required for the journey to school can be used within the VRB network. Where do I get on? Where do I get off? How does the stop button work? Children have a lot of questions if they have not travelled by bus or train much or at all. This day offers the opportunity to try out travelling by bus and train and to clarify questions. With this campaign, the VRB wants to prepare schoolchildren as well as possible for their new journeys to school. „Together with their parents or carers, children can learn how to get to school in future. We want to give them confidence and a safe feeling for travelling by bus and train,“ explains VRB Managing Director Stefan Bartels. Trial journey vouchers are distributed directly to pupils and parents/guardians via the schools in the region. Anyone who would like to take advantage of the „School journey on trial“ campaign must present the completed trial journey voucher to the driving and testing staff in the vehicles. Following a positive response in the previous year, the „Test drive to school“ campaign is taking place for the second time throughout the entire network area. When choosing a trial day, please note that buses expressly marked as school buses do not run during the holiday period.
